What is an Business Office Assistant?

A Business Office Assistant is someone who performs work for a company's corporate office, or the department within a company responsible for planning and controlling production and/or logistics activities. In doing so, the business office ensures that production and logistics run smoothly and supports management in efficient and trouble-free operations.

Tasks

A Business Office Employee directs and monitors both production processes and logistics processes. You work at companies that specialize in logistics or the production of goods. These companies can operate in various industries, such as the food and beverage industry, textile industry, printing industry, transport industry or the hospitality industry: as long as there is an inflow and outflow of goods and/or services. Below are some of the tasks performed

  • Collecting and processing sales orders
  • Production planning
  • Scheduling planning
  • Calculating material requirements
  • Placing orders with suppliers of production materials
  • Calculating (production) capaciry needs
  • Keeping time records (this may include both man and machine hours)
  • Planning maintenance of production equipment
  • Monitoring and optimizing production performance
  • Managing inventory administration
  • Setting up, reporting and coordinating KPIs. 
  • Calculating costs of production orders in pre and post calculation
  • Issuing shipping orders to the department responsible for delivery
  • Formulating possible improvement processes and advising management

How do you become a Business Office Assistant

For the position of Business Office Assistant, you must have at least a college or university education.

What training are there for Business Office Assistant

To become an Operational Office Manager, you need several years of work experience in a logistics function. In addition, a completed education in the direction of (technical) business administration (hbo) or logistics (hbo) is a plus. Technical knowledge may also be required, for example in relation to machinery and equipment.

Average salary

When you start working within this position, the hourly salary will be around €17 and the monthly salary will be around €2750. This salary often depends on knowledge, age and experience. You will see that the salary increases the longer you work or specify yourself in a particular field.
